Nightclubs: A different demon…

I have had the pleasure of working in all walks of the service industry, from roadhouses to fine dining establishments as a bartender, but never in the fast-paced environment of a nightclub until recently…

My nightclub cherry has been popped in Toronto as a flair bartender¬†and it has been a great experience.¬† Going from having no customers one minute to being¬†completely slammed the next; with no time to breathe or think; and then… bartender instinct suddenly kicks in.

I have been in the industry for 8 years working all over the globe and currently I’m working as a bartending instructor.¬† From high volume lounges, to slow paced martini bars,¬†I have enjoyed all of my experiences thus far including training-by-day for BartenderOne, but my time at the nightclub was amazing.¬† A couple of the reasons I enjoy the nightclub scene in Toronto¬†are as follows; the adrenaline rush you get when working behind the wood, tons of energy surrounding you, loud music with a live¬†DJ and a go, go, go faster environment. Before you know it the night is over, the flair settles down¬†and people start to file out.¬† Time seems to vanish into thin air, you realize that you just helped serve thousands of cocktails and exhaustion sets in.

As a flair bartender, it can be difficult to work with automated liquor dispensing systems¬†, but none the less has inspired me to be more creative with flair bartending,¬†and¬†I¬†challenge myself on a nightly basis to find new ways to ‚Äúwow‚ÄĚ my guests in a 15 second window.¬† I really enjoy using real bottles when bartending¬†because they are easier to flair with, but I got the hang of the automated berg system in the¬†end¬†to pump out drinks, and it forced me to focus on working flair with other objects on the bar like glassware, shaker tins, spoons, muddlers, ice scoops; essentially anything that is not physically bolted down to the bar!Jay Blog Club

So in the end I thoroughly enjoyed working in a Toronto¬†nightclub as a flair bartender¬†filled with beautiful people, tons of energy, great music and to wrap my experiences up¬†I would highly recommend tackling this¬†nightclub¬†demon by the¬†horns… its a hell of a¬†ride!

Stay thirsty…
